Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, friends! This recipe is a spin off one of my childhood favorites that my mom made every. single. year. My sister and I would each invite a friend over and we’d help to intricately frost each bell, tree, boy, girl, or snowman. And we sure needed the help because, Mom would make 20 dozen cookies for her annual family cookie exchange. Um… can we make those parties a thing again, please?!
So, when I gave it a go on my own, and found that my dough was a little dry and slow to mix (and the recipe didn’t call for milk), I got creative with something my house always has in stock this time of year, Bailey’s Irish Cream! What a festive addition to our traditional holiday sugar cookies! I know you and yours will just love this recipe as much as we do.
Cheers!
For the Irish Cream Sugar Cookies:
Ingredients:
- 2 1/3 cups all purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 3 cups white sugar
- 1 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 cups butter, softened
- 2 brown eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup Bailey’s Irish Cream
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- Add all ingredients to large mixing bowl. Stir at low speed.
- Rub rolling pin and wood cutting board with all purpose flour and add additional flour to cookie dough as needed to decrease sticking.
- Create desired cut outs about 2 cm thick.
- Line cookie sheet with foil. This decreases mess and allows for easy cooling and stacking. Once cooled, the foil also keeps your counters clean for frosting!
- Bake each cookie sheet for 10 minutes in preheated oven, or until golden. Cool.
For the Buttercream Frosting:
Ingredients:
- 2lbs powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup almond milk
- 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups butter, softened
Directions:
- Add all ingredients to large mixing bowl. Stir at high speed.
- Spoon frosting into small bowls and add food coloring as needed and decorate as desired.
- Refrigerate cookies 1 hour.
- Serve and enjoy!

This recipe yields 48 small or 24 large Irish buttercream sugar cookies. Enjoy!
